🥇 The Calm Before the Storm

The storm being training camp. Obviously.

Happy Friday!

Training camp is slowly beginning for teams, as just the Chargers have begun full team training camp and the Lions begin tomorrow (July 19) with the majority of teams beginning next week. This is where the fun starts. Draft rooms will shift, news will be relevant and we’re in for a fun summer.

Let’s see where things stand for now!

In this week’s newsletter:

🏷️ First Look Draft Values

Every week I’ll highlight draft values found in draft rooms, primarily using my Abusing Draft Rankings tool to help find these players.

Obviously right now it’s too early to take advantage of these values, unless you’re drafting this weekend! It’s still a massive benefit to keep an eye on both ADP trends (listed in the next section) and consistent discrepancies between ADP and expert ranks.

QB Jared Goff - ESPN

Draft room rank: QB20 | Expert rank: QB14
Landmine Score: 1.0

Okay, I might be biased as a Lions fan (I try not to be biased) but… QB20 feels wrong. Goff has finished the last three seasons as a top-10 QB, even finishing last year as the QB6. He may not be the flashy QB pick but if you’re drafting on ESPN it seems like he is the late round QB target in these draft rooms.

WR Josh Downs – ESPN

Draft room rank: WR42 | Expert rank: WR62
Landmine Score: 2.5

Downs, to me, is a great late round WR dart throw - and that’s at his WR42 rank! Mix in the fact that he is being ranked in ESPN draft rooms four rounds after that rank and I’m even more in. This is a bench player draft pick with upside (particularly if Anthony Richardson isn’t the starting QB, Downs could use some volume) and the steep discount makes that an easier pick.

QB Justin Fields - Sleeper

Draft room rank: QB17 | Expert rank: QB10
Landmine Score: 2.6

Yes, I am in fact buying in to the Justin Fields hype once again. He is fortunately able to be drafted as a QB2 in Sleeper draft rooms and that’s a price I’m very much willing to take advantage of. In Sleeper drafts he is being ranked close to 4 rounds after his overall rank and 7 QB spots lower. He’s cheap, in perhaps the best offense of his career, and very very intriguing.

WR Chris Olave - Yahoo

Draft room rank: WR32 | Expert rank: WR26
Landmine Score: 5.6

This isn’t a huge in-your-face discount on a player, but he’s available in Yahoo drafts a full round later than he’s ranked and in the early-middle rounds that’s a heavy value. Olave may finally have settled into his true value here in this range but I always love to take advantage of a draft room that has him ranked later.

New for 2025: Landmine Score - It’s a 0-10 scale that rates how risky a player is in your draft room - based on how much earlier they’re ranked on your platform versus expert consensus.

Most players land somewhere in the 5-6 range. A score of 10 means they’re being pushed way up the board and you’re probably walking into a trap. A 0? That’s a straight-up steal.

📝 Draft Day Cheat Sheet

Welcome to Year 2 of my draft cheat sheet - JuiceSheets!

These sheets pair nicely with my Abusing Draft Rankings as it includes projections and a value column for Standard, Half PPR and PPR scoring on ESPN, Sleeper and Yahoo. Check it out!

This is version 1.1 - I’ll continue to update this as ADPs tighten and preseason buzz starts to move the market.
